Workshop “Traditional tastes from Southern Estonia”

The Estonian cooking traditions are a blend of the German manor cuisine and Russian and Scandinavian dishes. The first cookbook in Estonian (translated from Swedish) was published in 1781. Estonian peasants did not need a cookbook – they ate what was growing in their fields or what they had collected for preservation. Both the dishes and the way we eat have changed over time. However, there are still plenty of unique dishes in Southern Estonia that we will prepare under the supervision of an instructor:
cheese with caraway or thyme made of cottage cheese – sõir
mashed potatoes with pearl barley or home-made sausages
beet salad in the traditional Seto style
kama mousse with berries

When we are done cooking, it’s time to taste the traditional dishes of Southern Estonia and praise the cooks. Each participant will get recipes and certificates at the end of the class.
This workshop is available in English upon advance registration. Price: 46€ per participant.
